Traveling with coffee

When we travel, we need to stay awake and focused, because we want to discover and enjoy every minute of it, discovering and experiencing all the possible places we choose to visit. That's why The best company when leaving our homes will always be a good cup of coffee. , that with its flavor it brightens our day and fills us with energy to fill ourselves with new experiences, that is why today we want to talk about those elements, methods and options that we have when it comes to going out to travel the world. It is clear that regardless of the destination we go to, if we are coffee lovers we can face complicated situations, when it is a road trip, finding good coffee along the way becomes difficult, many of the hotels in our country, regardless of the number of stars they have, do not have good coffee , they normally have low-quality industrial coffees and when we are already such coffee lovers, this can become a problem, but one that is easy to solve.

There are different methods to avoid running out of coffee when we leave home, and we're going to share them with you here.

The first one is the simplest and the one recommended especially for the road and is The thermos is the best way to keep our coffee hot for several hours and thus be able to have supplies during our trip. Coffee thermoses are usually made of stainless steel with a double coating to maintain the temperature. You can also find some slightly more retro ones with a glass interior. So when we're on a road trip, we can simply make our coffee at home using our usual method and pour it into the thermos to keep us awake for the entire trip.

Person preparing coffee using the AeroPress method

But if your trip is long and you need to prepare your own coffee, or if the place you're going doesn't have good coffee, we have a recommendation: the Aeropress, the perfect method for your next destination. This is the best portable method (in my opinion), and I'm going to tell you why and what you need to use it. The first advantage of this method is that coffee prepared this way has more body than other methods like the French press; the coffee ends up with little to no bitterness or unwanted acidity. Its flavor and aroma naturally depend on the bean chosen, the grind level, and the brewing time. For this method, a fine grind, similar in size to table salt, is recommended. One disadvantage is the amount required; due to its size, it's suitable for just one concentrated coffee or two Americanos, but no more. So if you're traveling with someone, you'll have to share a short coffee.

Features that make it ideal for a trip:

  • Its plastic design makes it more durable, lightweight and easy to transport.
  • Its preparation time is between 1 and 2 minutes
  • Easy to clean

This method is performed by immersion, which allows you to control the key factors of preparation according to the traveler's tastes.

But to travel with an Aeropress you need more than just the method

Clearly, to prepare good coffee, we need other elements necessary to achieve a good cup of coffee. One of those fundamental elements when preparing coffee is water, and for this type of method, of course, it must be hot water, so we would need an electric kettle to heat the water. But to prepare good coffee, we need good beans, with the appropriate grind for the method we're using, so it's also necessary to carry a hand grinder and a filter for our Aeropress.

An extreme trip?

Sometimes we want to be as far away from civilization as possible, and although it's a trip for the more adventurous, camping is a unique experience that connects you with nature. But there's no electricity available to heat water, like using an Aeropress. That's why, when your destination is deep in the mountains, coffee can also be a great travel companion. More experienced campers tend to cook over a wood fire, while others carry small gas ovens. In both we can prepare coffee using an Italian press, which gives us a cup with intense characteristics of body, aroma and flavor.

The journey of coffee

Coffee in itself is a journey in which we discover and learn about new places through our palate, but when a cup accompanies us on the journey, the experiences will be more intense and full of flavor. That's why, whenever we decide to explore a new place, we should also experience the flavor of its coffee.
