Coffee sweets, a delicious world to explore

Mmmm mmmm, this is the only way to start this article after having searched and investigated about the different preparations of desserts and sweets, is that we have to be honest, the vast majority of coffee lovers are also lovers of sweets . Truly, when we drink a cup of coffee with its strong flavor and distinct bitterness, the best companion for a perfect pairing is a good dessert. But today we won't be talking about those pairings, but rather about those preparations that found in coffee the perfect ingredient to give flavor to the dessert.

Let's start by saying that there are a multitude of sweet recipes that include coffee, from desserts, cookies, cakes, to small sweets that have the audacity to have a coffee bean in their center. But before telling you about each of these preparations, we must understand...

Flan accompanied by a cup of coffee

The gastronomic properties of coffee.

Due to the characteristics of coffee as an ingredient, it becomes an important flavor enhancer in food, but don't think that only conventional coffee is used; some of the most daring chefs have worked with preparations using green coffee, like a vegetable, in their recipes. In desserts, coffee is used conventionally depending on the preparation. In some cases, it's the more or less strong beverage, the ground or unground beans, and in other cases, even instant coffee. As we already know, coffee is an ingredient with very pronounced flavors and aromas, making it an ingredient that always stands out from the rest. That's why it's customary to prepare more balanced, more neutral flavors so they complement each other rather than compete.

I'll share with you some of the recipes I found, the ones that caught my attention the most and that can be easily prepared at home.

1 coffee mousse

  • Instant coffee
  • 250 g of cottage cheese
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 100 ml of whipped cream
  • Milk
  • Cocoa powder

Place the cottage cheese in the blender and add the sugar. Begin blending the mixture until smooth. Heat the milk and add the instant coffee. When the coffee is well combined, add the mixture. Gradually add the cottage cheese and sugar to this base. Let it set and garnish with cocoa powder. If you like the contrasting flavors, you can add a touch of rum for a perfect combination.

2 The Coffee Pudding

  • 1 cup of coffee
  • 100 g of butter
  • 4 eggs
  • Flour
  • 100 g of sugar
  • Whipped cream

Place half the butter in a pan. When the butter has melted, add 1 tablespoon of flour, then the coffee, and mix with the flour and butter until they begin to thicken. Continue adding the sugar and then add two whole eggs, stirring constantly and with the cream slightly cooled.

Then add one egg yolk and reserve the remaining egg whites. Beat the egg whites separately until stiff, this way you'll get a slightly fluffier pudding. Place the pudding in molds and cook in a bain-marie in a bowl with two fingers of hot water. When serving, add a little whipped cream or caramel to the top.

Coffee cookies

  • 500 g Butter
  • 300 g Sugar
  • 1 piece Whole Egg
  • 5 ml Vanilla
  • 600 g Flour
  • A cup of coffee

In a mixer, cream the butter with the sugar, add the egg, vanilla, and coffee, and mix for another minute. Then, add the flour and continue stirring until incorporated. Transfer the dough to a table and form into 3 cm logs and let it cool. Once cool, bake for 10 minutes at 180Β°C.

These are just 3 of the dessert options I found to prepare and the ones I actually found easiest to share. But With coffee you can achieve any type of preparations and sweets There are meringues and coffee macaroons, some people add coffee to their custard in December, and others prefer more classic desserts like tiramisu or coffee flan. Still, no matter what your favorite coffee dessert is, the invitation will always be to find that perfect combination of sweet and coffee and discover those flavors that will transform you into new coffee experiences.
